On April 29, 1953, my sister, Clarissa Minthorne Beall, was born. On August 9, 2007, she passed away. Her birthday is this Friday—she would have been 63. "still the lilacs bloom" is dedicated to her and to my mother, who used to say, “The lilacs were always in bloom  for Clarissa’s birthday.”
